Troubleshooting

Common issues & fixes

If your upload is rejected, one of these is usually the reason.

  • Upload rejected — file size too large

    What you see

The portal displays "File size exceeds the allowed limit" or the upload button spins indefinitely.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically compresses your photo to the exact size limit. Re-process your photo and download again — the output will be within the allowed limit.

  • Photo rejected — wrong dimensions

    What you see

The portal shows "Invalid photo dimensions" or "Photo does not meet size requirements".

    How to fix it

Use the correct preset for your exam. This tool resizes your photo to the exact pixel dimensions required — no manual resizing needed.

  • Format not accepted — only JPEG allowed

    What you see

Portal shows "Only JPEG/JPG format accepted" even though your photo looks fine.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically converts PNG, WebP, and other formats to JPEG on download. Ensure you are uploading the file you just downloaded, not your original.

  • Background rejected — not white

    What you see

The portal flags the photo for "incorrect background colour" or the automated check fails.

    How to fix it

This tool cannot change the background of your photo. Retake your photo in front of a plain white or off-white wall in good lighting. Then re-process through this tool.

  • Photo rejected — too old

    What you see

Form submission blocked with "Please upload a recent photograph (within 6 months)".

    How to fix it

Government portals require a recent photo. Use a photo taken within the last 6 months, then process it here.

Frequently asked questions

What photo size does UGC NET require?
NTA UGC NET requires a passport-size photo: 3.5x4.5 cm (413x531 pixels at 300 DPI), JPEG format, between 10 KB and 100 KB. This tool targets under 100 KB to stay within limits across all NTA notifications.
Is UGC NET photo size the same as other NTA exams?
Most NTA exams use the same photo specification: 3.5x4.5 cm, JPEG, under 100 KB. This includes CUET, CSIR NET, and CMAT. One properly processed photo works for all of them.
What is the correct background for NTA exam photos?
A plain white background is required by NTA. Face straight at the camera, good lighting, no shadows on the background. The same photo often gets printed on the admit card, so clarity matters.
Do I need to upload a signature for UGC NET?
Yes. NTA UGC NET requires a separate signature image at 140x60 pixels, under 30 KB. Use Signature 30KB to prepare it before starting the form.
Can I use this photo for CSIR UGC NET as well?
Yes. CSIR UGC NET, JRF, and Assistant Professor eligibility applications on the NTA portal all use the same photo specification. Download once and use across all applications.
