Common issues & fixes

If your upload is rejected, one of these is usually the reason.

  • Upload failed — file size exceeded

    What you see

    Portal shows "File size should not exceed X KB" and rejects the upload.

    How to fix it

    This tool compresses your photo to exactly the required limit. Download the processed file and upload that instead of your original.

  • Format not accepted

    What you see

    Portal displays "Please upload JPEG/JPG image only" after you select your photo.

    How to fix it

    Download the file produced by this tool — it is always exported as JPEG, regardless of your original format.

  • Photo dimensions rejected

    What you see

    Portal shows "Photo dimensions do not match requirements" on upload.

    How to fix it

    Each ID document has specific pixel dimensions. Use the correct preset (Aadhaar, PAN card, Passport, or Voter ID) — the tool sets the exact pixels required.

  • Face not clearly visible

    What you see

    Automated check flags "Face not detected" or "Photo quality too low".

    How to fix it

    Use a well-lit, high-contrast original photo with your face clearly centred and filling most of the frame. Avoid low-light or blurry source photos.

  • Background not accepted

    What you see

    Form shows "Plain white background required" after upload.

    How to fix it

    Take the photo in front of a plain white or off-white surface in good even lighting. This tool cannot change the background of an existing photo.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Indian passport photo be?
Indian passport photos must be 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), which is 600×600 pixels at 300 DPI, in JPEG format with a white or near-white background.
Can I wear glasses in my Indian passport photo?
No. Since 2019, the Indian passport authority does not accept photos with glasses. The face must be clearly visible without eyewear.
What colour should the background be for an Indian passport photo?
The background must be plain white or near-white. This tool automatically fills any transparent or non-white areas with white.
My photo has a non-white background. Can I still use it?
This tool fills transparent PNG areas with white. For photos with a coloured background, you should retake the photo against a white background for best results.
