Additional requirements

  • Use a photo taken in the last 6 months. The portal may cross-check photo date metadata.
  • Your full face must be visible. Eyes open, looking directly at the camera. No tilted or profile shots.
  • Do not wear glasses. Caps and head coverings are not allowed unless required for religious practice.
  • The NDA portal rejects uploads where either the resolution or file size does not match the specification. Use the preset tool to avoid both.

Troubleshooting

Common issues & fixes

If your upload is rejected, one of these is usually the reason.

  • Upload rejected — file size too large

    What you see

The portal displays "File size exceeds the allowed limit" or the upload button spins indefinitely.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically compresses your photo to the exact size limit. Re-process your photo and download again — the output will be within the allowed limit.

  • Photo rejected — wrong dimensions

    What you see

The portal shows "Invalid photo dimensions" or "Photo does not meet size requirements".

    How to fix it

Use the correct preset for your exam. This tool resizes your photo to the exact pixel dimensions required — no manual resizing needed.

  • Format not accepted — only JPEG allowed

    What you see

Portal shows "Only JPEG/JPG format accepted" even though your photo looks fine.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically converts PNG, WebP, and other formats to JPEG on download. Ensure you are uploading the file you just downloaded, not your original.

  • Background rejected — not white

    What you see

The portal flags the photo for "incorrect background colour" or the automated check fails.

    How to fix it

This tool cannot change the background of your photo. Retake your photo in front of a plain white or off-white wall in good lighting. Then re-process through this tool.

  • Photo rejected — too old

    What you see

Form submission blocked with "Please upload a recent photograph (within 6 months)".

    How to fix it

Government portals require a recent photo. Use a photo taken within the last 6 months, then process it here.

Frequently asked questions

What is the photo size requirement for the NDA exam application?
The NDA application requires a photo of 3.5x4.5 cm (413x531 pixels at 300 DPI), in JPEG format and under 300 KB. Both conditions must be met or the portal will reject the upload.
What background is acceptable for the NDA application photo?
A plain white background is the safest option. Light off-white also works. Do not use coloured walls, studio backdrops, or outdoor settings. The face should be fully visible with no shadows.
Is the NDA photo size the same as UPSC Civil Services?
Yes, both use 3.5x4.5 cm, JPEG, under 300 KB. If you have already processed your photo for UPSC CSE, the same file can be used for the NDA application.
Do I need to resize my signature for the NDA application?
Yes. The NDA form requires a separate digital signature upload at 140x60 pixels, under 20 KB. Use Signature 20KB to prepare it alongside the photo.
