Troubleshooting

Common issues & fixes

If your upload is rejected, one of these is usually the reason.

  • Upload rejected — file size too large

    What you see

The portal displays "File size exceeds the allowed limit" or the upload button spins indefinitely.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically compresses your photo to the exact size limit. Re-process your photo and download again — the output will be within the allowed limit.

  • Photo rejected — wrong dimensions

    What you see

The portal shows "Invalid photo dimensions" or "Photo does not meet size requirements".

    How to fix it

Use the correct preset for your exam. This tool resizes your photo to the exact pixel dimensions required — no manual resizing needed.

  • Format not accepted — only JPEG allowed

    What you see

Portal shows "Only JPEG/JPG format accepted" even though your photo looks fine.

    How to fix it

This tool automatically converts PNG, WebP, and other formats to JPEG on download. Ensure you are uploading the file you just downloaded, not your original.

  • Background rejected — not white

    What you see

The portal flags the photo for "incorrect background colour" or the automated check fails.

    How to fix it

This tool cannot change the background of your photo. Retake your photo in front of a plain white or off-white wall in good lighting. Then re-process through this tool.

  • Photo rejected — too old

    What you see

Form submission blocked with "Please upload a recent photograph (within 6 months)".

    How to fix it

Government portals require a recent photo. Use a photo taken within the last 6 months, then process it here.

Frequently asked questions

What photo size does SSC require?
SSC requires a photo of 3.5x4.5 cm (413x531 pixels at 300 DPI), JPEG format, between 20 KB and 100 KB. This tool targets just under 100 KB so it passes all SSC notifications, including older ones with different lower limits.
Is SSC CGL photo size the same as SSC CHSL?
Yes. SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, SSC MTS, SSC CPO, and SSC GD all use the same photo specification. The same output file works for all of them.
What background is required for SSC photos?
Plain white or off-white only. The SSC portal often flags photos with coloured, patterned, or studio-prop backgrounds. Natural light on a white wall works well.
Do I need to resize my signature separately for SSC?
Yes, the SSC form has a separate signature upload field. Use Signature 20KB to prepare your digital signature to 140x60 pixels, under 20 KB.
Is SSC photo size different from UPSC?
Same pixel dimensions, 3.5x4.5 cm. But UPSC allows up to 300 KB while SSC caps at 100 KB. A photo compressed for SSC will work for UPSC too. The reverse is not always true.
